ALPACA WOOL
We don’t believe in over-producing to fit a mould. We believe in unique.
Every garment we produce is as unique as the Peruvian Alpaca it came from which is why no two capes or fur scarves will ever be the same.
Alpacas were domesticated by the Incas more than 6,000 years ago and raised for their exquisite fleece.
Due to its quality and all of its superhero characteristics, alpaca fibre was reserved exclusively for the elite and nobility.
Our wool is still hand-produced in the highlands of Peru.
Alpaca is a specialty fibre that has been described as stronger than mohair, finer than cashmere, smoother than silk, softer than cotton, warmer than goose down and better-breathing than thermal knits. The Alpacas produce hair, not wool, rendering the fibre warmer than sheep’s wool (Merino) or goat’s wool (cashmere) and not itchy. It is also free of lanolin, making it hypoallergenic.
Alpacas are shorn once a year for their wool. The fur we use comes from animals who have died naturally in the winter months. We don’t kill for fur.
This makes our garments not only unique but limited production. The fur, although undeniably much softer, is akin to sheepskin from a sheep, and will vary slightly in thickness and texture.
