 ALPACA WOOL

Alpaca Wool is an extremely luxurious fabric that is akin to being in the possession of a jewel. The Alpaca have hair (not wool) that is woven into the threads, fabrics, and fleeces you can enjoy.

The more you care for your Alpaca garment, the longer it will remain in top condition.

When you receive your garment, remove the garment from its packaging and gently shake it. This will bring the hairs of the fibre back to their natural shape.

Items with Fur Trim or Merino Wool

Dry clean only. We recommend you take your garment to the best dry cleaner you can find, since this will ensure the longevity of your garment.

Iron on mild heat without steam on the reverse side. You will know which side this is since the fabric will be more ‘flat’.

If the fur trim gets a little flat, you can gently brush the fur trim (not the fabric) with a soft plastic pet brush (like this one) to revive the bounce.

For fur scarves you may want to get the item clean by a fur specialist.

Spills

If liquid has been spilled on the fur, apply talcum powder to the area and leave for a few hours, then brush away. This will absorb the liquid and should restore bounce and fluffiness.

Alpaca Wool Products

  • Dry Clean

  • Hand wash in cold or very slightly warm water.

  • Use mild shampoo since the Alpaca wool fibre is hair (baby shampoo is a great option).

  • Never rub or wring the fabric, simply submerge in the water and allow to soak for 2-4 minutes.

  • Rinse by lightly pressing the fabric.

  • If you would like added softness you can add a drop of mild hair conditioner to water and rinse immediately, again by pressing the fabric.

  • *Do not spot clean with water since this can create a mild water stain... once you wet a spot on the garment you have to wet it entirely.

  • To dry, place the garment flat between two towels and gently press. Do not wring since this will alter the shape of the garment.

  • Then remove from between the towels and lay flat on another towel until the top side is dry, then flip over to dry the other side.

  • Do not dry on direct heat such a radiator, or in direct sunlight, since this will cause the fibres to shrink.

  • Do not hang the wet garment as it will stretch.

  • Iron your garment on mild heat, without steam.

Storing Your Garment

We recommend storing your garment flat, folded, and in a breathable bag to minimise moisture and moths.

Keeping your garment hung for long periods of time can cause it to stretch and lose its shape.

However, if you know you will be using your garment, like your cape, in a few days, you can hang it (preferably on a coat hanger) for that time to allow some of the wrinkles to come out naturally.

Ensure that your item is clean if you are going to store it for long periods of time since dirt, debris,  sweat, makeup residue and even perfume can attract moths.
